I'm Happy

As I sit here on the couch checking email and such... Return of Jafar is on the TV, and my son, hubby and baby girl are sitting on the couch next to me.  They are the best and life is good :)  We don't watch a lot of tv in our house, but some evenings we just like some chill time so we put a movie on before bed.  Okay, back to the movie, have a happy evening!

Thankful Thursdays - My Life, My Loves, My Family!

I am so thankful that I have such a great husband and son. They are the best and just thinking about either of them brightens my entire day. I am so thankful that soon I will be able to stay home with my little guy full-time and that my husband is so supportive of me staying home… and just of me in general :)  I am so thankful to have the life we have!  And although I am completely thrilled with our family and our life, I long for another baby… but we aren’t really going to try for that for another month or 2 at least. But I still think about it and it has brought me to the question… Should someone try for a girl or boy???

Ideally, K and I would love to have a boy and a girl… and we have been thinking about this a lot lately. Right now we have the best little boy in the world and although I know we would be thrilled if we were to get pregnant with another boy, we still kind-of want a girl.

A neighbor was telling me about a book she read when trying to have a girl after having 2 boys. How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby, by Dr. Shettles. She swears by his methods and is convinced this is why they have their daughter. So, I requested the book from the library and have been reading it. Now, Dr. Shettles claims about a 90% chance for having a boy and about a 70% chance for having a girl (if you follow his methods), but yet I still feel weird about it.

If you have read previous posts of mine, like this one, you know that I am a firm believer in the “everything happens for a reason” theory. I don’t like to be the determiner of things that I think should happen naturally. So… do I feel okay about increasing my chances of getting pregnant with a girl??? I’m just not sure.

Part of me feels like it is not 100%, so it isn’t the same as forcing nature. I mean, if we are meant to have another boy, we probably still would??? Yet the other part of me feels like it is still playing with something that maybe should not be played with. I think back to before we got pregnant with Little C. We didn’t try anything special, we just let nature take its course and we ended up with the most amazing little boy in the world. Had we tried for a girl… maybe C wouldn’t be here (I don’t even like writing that!!!), and really we can’t imagine our lives without him! But then if we try for a girl and it happens, I am sure we wouldn’t be able to imagine our lives without her either.

And then there is the whole timing issue.  I would really love for C and his sibling to be 2-2 1/2 years apart, but the Shettles method could take a while.  We were super lucky with C that we got pregnant right away.  Not going to eleborate on this concern too much, just saying that it is another issue to consider for us.

So, what do you think? Do you feel like following certain methods to increase your chances or having one sex over the other is like playing with nature? Would you do it?

Thankful Thursdays

I am thankful for my amazing husband. When we first met 7 years ago, I wasn’t even thinking he could be the man I married. I had just graduated college, just started a new job (where he worked too) and had just gotten out of a relationship… I was kind-of in limbo with a lot of stuff. K knew all these things and he took our relationship slow, we really did start as friends first, which was great.

K is such a supportive husband and an even more spectacular father. We’ve had some disagreements (although I can only recall maybe 1 or 2), who doesn’t? But we have always been able to work through them and move on. I remember when we were at Pre-Cana we had to introduce ourselves and then say something we love about our spouse. I knew I was going to say that I love how K can always make me laugh, but he went first… and what did he say… that he loves my laugh and always tries to make me laugh. I guess we have always kind-of thought alike.

K is funny and cute and sweet. He is strong and supportive… and yes, he can always make me laugh. He makes up silly songs or says something he knows will get a smile at the very least. I know that no matter what happens he will always be here for me… and most importantly, that he will always be here for our son. He has strong family values and I love that my family loves him too. I could not have wished for a better friend, husband and father to our child, he is amazing! I am so thankful for you K, you are my everything.

Thankful Thursdays

Who I am thankful for… my parents. I wouldn’t be the person I am today without my amazing, funny, kind, helpful, and wonderful parents. They have always believed in me and set the best example for a strong, happy marriage and good, strong family values.

Currently my husband and I are considering relocating out of Northeastern Ohio to the beautiful Piedmont region of North Carolina. For all my life, my whole family on both my parents’ sides has always been within about 30 minutes of each other. I LOVE that. I love that in less than a half hour I can be at the door step of anyone in my family. Well, that changed about a year and a half ago when my sister, her husband and their adorable, smart, funny (now) 4-year old daughter moved out of state. They come into town once every month or two and in between visits we webcam and talk and text on the phone. It was hard, but we adjusted.

K has always wanted to move south. Ideally, he always wanted Florida, but I like seasons… I don’t want heat all the time. So, when K lost his job a few months back, we decided it would be the perfect opportunity to include other parts of the country in his job search. With all this talk of possibly moving, of course our big concern was leaving family… and how they would feel about it.

Well, my parents have been so great and so supportive. I was worried about how they would react. I didn’t want them thinking that we were abandoning them, or that we didn’t care about them. My fears were quickly put to rest though. As soon as they found out that K got some interviews in NC, they were overjoyed and so excited for us. They truly know what it means to put your children first, to be supportive and to try to understand things from someone else’s point of view. They are so great!

I know that I will miss them terribly if we leave. I will miss that C won’t have his grandparents across town while he’s growing up, I will miss so much. But truth be told; I know we will all be okay. I know K, C and I will be very happy wherever we end up. I know that we will still be so close to my parents. I know that although the miles may separate us physically, nothing could ever really separate us. And who knows, maybe one day they’ll decide to retire to NC!

I love you, Mom and Dad – you really are the BEST! And THANK YOU for everything!
